The legendary former champion is making his comeback at the age of 43.

Ricky Hatton is the latest boxing legend to come out of retirement for another fight.

Oscar De La Hoya mounted a similar attempt at a comeback last year only to be derailed by a Covid-19 infection, while Floyd Mayweather will fight this year on a helipad in his third exhibition fight.

43-year-old Hatton retired from boxing in 2012, with defeat to Vyacheslav Senchenko coming three years after his previous outing, another loss - that time against Manny Pacquiao.

The Mancunian was a light-welterweight world champion in his prime and has since turned to training, but plans to fight in his hometown against Mexican fighter Marco Antonio Barrera.

"I can confirm my return to the ring," Hatton tweeted.

"Join me for a huge party night - with top music acts - in Manchester on July 2. It's not how you fall, it's how you rise..."

The eight-round content will not be a professional match-up, instead the pair will fight it out in an exhibition.

48-year-old Barrera has also been away from the sport for some time, losing to Amir Khan in 2009 and fighting most recently in 2011.
