Ricky Hatton has backed Tyson Fury to emerge victorious if he ever steps into the ring with long-term rival, Anthony Joshua.

Fury has his second outing of 2022 this weekend when he faces Derek Chisora for a third time, and if successful, the WBC heavyweight champion will switch his focus to an undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk next year.

As well as a potential showdown with Usyk, Fury’s name will undoubtedly be linked to with Joshua at some point in 2023.

If the eagerly anticipated showdown happens, Hatton is backing Fury, but the former two-weight world champion firmly believes that Joshua has the tools to make it a hard night for his countryman.

“I think Tyson is just too good in every department. No disrespect intended to AJ and what he’s done. Olympic gold medallist, two-time heavyweight champion of the world - his legacy is cemented to a certain degree,” said Hatton when speaking to Fairbettingsites

“This is the fight that they both need to have. AJ showed that he can be outboxed like he did against Usyk. When you think about it, Tyson is just a bigger Usyk. He’s got the height, he’s got the reach, he’s got the ability.

"With AJ though you don’t just get an Olympic gold medal if you haven’t got the boxing ability. He’s also got punching power. If anybody is going to beat Tyson Fury, it probably will be Anthony Joshua.”
