Roy Jones Jr. scoffs at Deontay Wilder saying he doesn't see Tyson Fury as 'true champion'DAZN
The boxing legend doesn't know how that's possible given Fury's destruction of Wilder in February.

Deontay Wilder inexplicably told "The PBC Podcast" last week "in my eyes, I don't see (Tyson) Fury as a champion," despite the fact that Fury ran through "The Bronze Bomber" for a seventh-round TKO in February to become the new WBC heavyweight champion of the world.

So, Wilder's comment not only drew the ire of the boxing community, but it baffled it as well. Roy Jones Jr. was one of the people thrown for a loop by Wilder's comment.

The boxing legend used Fury's destruction of Wilder in February and the rivals' controversial split draw in December 2018 as his proof to declare the "Gypsy King" the "real champion" and then some.

“You can’t call him nothing but a real champion,” Jones told iFL TV late last week. “The guy beat you, you fought a seven-round fight and a 12-round fight, that’s 19 rounds and the guy probably won 14 or 15 of the 19 rounds, so how can you say he’s not a real champion?

“He beat you and took you out for your title," Jones continued, "so how can you say he’s not a real champion?”

Jones is well aware of the Fury-Wilder trilogy bout slated to take place this fall, if the coronavirus pandemic subsides by then. But the four-division world champ would much rather see Anthony Joshua clash with Fury for undisputed heavyweight glory at this point, instead.

“It’s going to be a good fight,” Jones said of a potential Joshua-Fury bout. “I think it’s going to be a tougher fight for him (Fury) than Wilder was because Joshua has more weaponry in terms of what he can bring to the table.

"He’s already brought a few plans to the table, so it’ll be tough.”
