The young American has missed almost all of 2021

Ryan Garcia claimed his wrist surgery was a success, an injury that forced him to drop out of a WBC eliminator with JoJo Diaz.

The pair were due to fight to earn the right to be Devin Haney’s mandatory challenger, but it now appears that Diaz will go straight to a December bout with the 22-year-old WBC champion.

Garcia withdrew from the planned fight after damaging his wrist in a sparring session and is likely to be out of action until 2022. He had already missed almost all of this year after taking time to improve his mental health.

“Massive success,” Garcia wrote Monday evening on social media. “Now I have danger in both hands. Beware! I’m very happy.”

“I promise early 2022, I will return better,” added the 23-year-old American.

“Very unlucky for me this year, breaking my hand from sparring just sealed the deal for this year. I won’t let this stop me from accomplishing my dreams.

“It’s a bad chapter but not the end of my book.”
