Ryan Garcia has said that fans will be ‘very pleased’ with the name of his next opponent.
Garcia had been out of action for 15 months following a win over Luke Campbell back in January 2021. A mixture of mental health problems and surgery on a hand injury left him out of action for the summer, and when he returned he had to withdraw from a fight with Jojo Diaz due to surgery.
As a result he had something of a tune-up fight in April when he fought Emmanuel Tagoe at a catchweight of 139lbs, and put on a dominant display against his experienced Ghanaian opponent.
Garcia has been linked with a number of contenders at 135lbs, with a shot at George Kambosos Jr. and Devin Haney off the table as they prepare for an undisputed clash.
Diaz, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Vasiliy Lomachenko have all been namechecked but there is no confirmation as yet, but Garcia wrote on Twitter that he would let fans know the details in due course.
“Don’t worry, when I have concrete information on my next opponent, I’ll make sure I let everyone who follows me know,” Garcia wrote. “It’s in the works and I’m sure you will be very pleased.”
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has also been putting forward Maxi Hughes, one of his own fighters, with a fight in July still a possibility.
