The boxing community has been abuzz this week with a number of key figures around star boxers Ryan Garcia and Gervonta 'Tank' Davis, including the fighters themselves, taking to social media to say that they will indeed do battle in 2023.
Very little appears to be 100% just yet, and more details will be shored up over time. But, here's what we know so far:
Is Ryan Garcia v Gervonta Davis official?
The fight was made official on Friday night after Gervonta Davis made the announcement which also revealed the date for the eagerly anticipated showdown.
Ryan Garcia soon followed to confirm the news.
Why is this such a big fight?
Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis are identified as two of America’s most exciting boxers. Since both landing at 135lbs, speculation has been heavy linking both to a fight with both confident personalities each promising victory,
Davis has been brought along nicely by Floyd Mayweather’s promotional group with Oscar De La Hoya providing the path for Garcia. The fact both men have been mentored by former rivals adds even more intrigue into this superb feud.
Will this fight be next for both men?
Davis beat Hector Luis Garcia on January 7 as a tune-up, while Ryan Garcia elected on keeping his calendar clear until he faces Tank, meaning an April fight looks likely to be the next action for both men.
What weight will the fight be fought at?
Despite both men achieving plenty at 135lbs, both men have also made moves to compete at super-lightweight, the division above. Either weight class is fine for the contest, but don’t be surprised if we see a catchweight arrangement agreed.
Who will broadcast the fight?
With Garcia fighting predominantly on DAZN and Davis usually found on Showtime, broadcasting appeared to be one of the biggest obstacles to overcome in talks.
However the agreement in place will see fans able to watch the superfight via DAZN in North America, with more details to follow once a date and venue are finalised.
