2021 kicks off with a bang as Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell look set to provide another in a long line of recent lightweight barn-burners.

While COVID-19 is making New Year's celebrations difficult for many, live boxing comes to the rescue when the first big fight event of the year takes place on January 2 and airs live on DAZN.

Highly-touted unbeaten Ryan Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) meets former world title challenger Luke Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) in a bout for the interim WBC championship and mandatory challenger status to the holder of the full version of the title, Devin Haney.

With two other world championship contests set for the undercard, Garcia vs. Campbell is set to see in the new year in a big way as the sport looks to respond to a challenging 2020 with an action-packed 2021.

The card was originally set for Dec. 5, until a positive coronavirus test result from Campbell forced a delay.

"I feel very disrespected by Luke," said Garcia recently. "But like I said, all that disrespect, all that hate and envy is gonna blind them.

"Luke’s just the first one — I feel bad for Luke. He’s just the first one of my opponents that’s gonna really get (beaten) bad. I cannot wait to punish Luke Campbell.

"I want to break his eye, I want to break his bones. I want to break everything of him. So he’s the first one that’s gonna get this.”
