Canelo appears frustrated in his attempt to become undisputed 168lb champion.

Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez believes Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez would defeat Caleb Plant if they meet.

Plant and Alvarez had been expected to fight in September this year after Canelo secured the WBO super middleweight championship from Billy Joe Saunders in May.

That leaves Texan fighter Plant as the only obstacle to Canelo becoming the undisputed champion in the division, but Canelo’s representative Eddie Hearn has found it tough to finalise a deal.

While Canelo is focused on becoming a four-belt champion, it has been suggested that he may ultimately have to return to 175lbs to continue to make high-profile fights.

One potential opponent would be Ramirez, who would be able to offer a popular all-Mexican bout. He has admitted he would be ready to meet Canelo.

Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, he was also asked how he saw any Alvarez-Plant fight going, should it come to pass.

“I think he's a tough fight for Canelo,” he began.

“But he can take the fight and as a Mexican, I want that (Canelo) wins the fight.

“Plant, he’s skillful, he moves around. But I like Canelo”
