Savannah Marshall is now 1-0 as a professional MMA fighter after making her debut under the PFL promotional banner on Saturday night.
Fighting in her home city of Newcastle upon Tyne, Marshall went up against Mirela Vargas and it was a thrilling contest.
Despite being taken down by Vargas a number of times, Marshall showcased her punching power and after being on the wrong end of what was an endless striking assault from the British fighter, Vargas was saved by the referee who stopped the fight in the closing stages of the first round.
Following a successful MMA debut, all roads seem to be leading to a showdown between Marshall and Claressa Shields inside the cage, but Marshall does still hold the IBF women's super middleweight title.
When asked whether a return to boxing will take place in the near future following the win over Vargas, Marshall gave the following response.
"I don't know. Ben Shalom's here, I told him you're going to have to get your purse out now, get the cheque-book out."
Marshall has not fought inside the boxing ring since July 2023 when she beat Franchon Crews Dezurn to become the undisputed women's super middleweight champion.
