Shakur Stevenson backs Jaron 'Boots' Ennis to be 'the truth' at welterweight

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is still a ‘dangerous’ opponent, according to Shakur Stevenson.

The pair fight several divisions apart, with Stevenson a unified champion at super featherweight before his recent move up to lightweight. Ennis is one of the emerging contenders for a title shot at welterweight.

Ennis however struggled to put on a typically dominant display in his recent fight against Karen Chukhadzhian, which has led to suggestions he is not as promising as many believe.

Speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, Stevenson backed Ennis to be a tough opponent to either of the division’s champions, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford.

“That’s a difficult question,” he said. “I’d like to see him against - I’d rather see Earl and Bud fight right now - after seeing that performance, critics are going to say he's not the truth.

“Anyone with two eyes can see Boots is the truth. I think that we've got to say we've got to pay attention to his power transitions from 1 to 12.

“Even in the last round he was throwing bombs. That’s something to be worried about for anyone in the 147lb division.

“And he stood up the whole time, never took a seat on his stool. He’s a dangerous fighter.”
