Shakur Stevenson knows what he has to do to earn big fights

The fighter is coming out of a threatened retirement.

Shakur Stevenson is aiming to impress this summer in order to earn some higher profile events.

Stevenson is unbeaten after 21 fights and 10 knockouts, and will fight next on July 6 as he attempts to defend his WBC lightweight strap for the fight time.

He beat Edwin De Los Santos last November for the title, but compared to his usual standards he was a way off his best.

Now, he is looking to make a statement.

He told Boxing Scene: “I’m coming to make a statement and whip ass.

“They’re never playing me again. I’m not a person to be played with.”

In the aftermath of his last fight, Stevenson retired but did not ever give up his belt, and now he feels ready to come back.

“I’ll be my sensational self and whip ass,” Stevenson said.

“I’m the best fighter in boxing. I know that.

“I just gotta kick my way through the door [toward major events], and that’s going to happen starting July 6. I’m so excited about it.

“The stuff I’ve been working on originally is special … Bud knows. He told me in the last fight, ‘Go out there and box and win,’ and I did. Now, I’ll be taking the same advice and turning it way up.”
