Shawn Porter revealed that he is keen to face Terence Crawford after the WBO welterweight champion complained nobody was willing to face him.
Promoter Bob Arum recently complained that Crawford was not an economically-viable fighter to promote, and there are financial obstacles to making Crawford-Porter that could require the champion to cut his asking price or reduce his end of the fight purse.
Crawford may be holding out for a money-spinning fight with Errol Spence Jr, something which a defeat to Porter would probably cost him, so he may be reluctant to agree the fight.
“I’m like, ‘Damn, man, all right. I’ll fight him. If nobody will, I’ll fight him.’ You know?” said Porter about Crawford on The Last Stand podcast.
“With me, it’s 100-percent the competitive spirit that I have and the willingness to fight someone who a lot of people feel he’s feared, and a lot of people don’t want to fight him,” said Porter of Crawford.
Porter claims that in order for the fight to go ahead, the main sticking point is that Crawford will not agree to a fight.
“Really, the only thing stopping me, preventing me from fighting Terence Crawford, is the fact that he and I both haven’t said yes,” he said.
“If he’s willing to say yes, the fight will happen.”
In Porter’s favour is his designation as the mandatory challenger for the WBO title, which means that a fight will have to happen in due course unless Crawford is willing to vacate the belt.
