Should Jake Paul still have fought Hasim Rahman at heavyweight?

Sergio Mora believes that Jake Paul should have fought Hasim Rahman Jr. despite the heavyweight boxer not coming in at the 200lbs weight limit.

Rahman was reportedly given leeway to make 205lbs, but not his requested 215lbs, and the fight was then called off.

Speaking on JABS as part of the DAZN Boxing Show, Mora said he would happily fight Paul to inflict his first defeat and end any chance of the YouTuber being treated as a credible opponent.

“A sideshow deserves another sideshow,” he said before making his first suggestion. “Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. That’s what you need right now. He’s a former champion and a bona fide quitter. He’ll probably quit against Jake Paul.

“I would love this fight. Not because I want the attention, not because boxing needs it. Boxing doesn’t care about it, but because we need to get rid of Jake Paul, and getting called a boxer. He’s not a boxer. But if you’re gonna fight a former champion, someone that he thinks he can beat, then I’m all for it.”

Mora then criticised Rahman for failing to meet the agreed weight, before saying that Paul should have gone ahead with the bout given the money at stake.

“It’s real unprofessional for Rahman Jr. to get out of this fight,” Mora said. “He signed the agreement, he should follow through with it. Even if it means dehydrating, putting your body through someone thing you don’t feel comfortable with.

“Contracts don’t care about your comfort. You signed it, you got to go through with it, and he pulled it. I think there’s more behind this deal, but that’s for another show.

“I think Jake Paul wasn’t ready for a professional fighter, and used the weight excuse.

“He should go on with the show. A lot of people are losing money over this. The network, the fans, the arena was booked. A  lot of money just got flushed over 15lbs. I’ll fight a fighter over 15lbs, just give me a little bit more of the cheque, of the pay per view.”
