The DAZN Boxing Show discussed what could come next for the Nicaraguan.

The DAZN Boxing Show discussed Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez’s next move after a comeback win against Julio Cesar Martinez on Saturday.

Gonzalez unleashed a constant barrage of blows that Martinez struggled to avoid, with his younger opponent unable to land much on the 34-year-old former world champion.

Akin ‘Ak’ Reyes and Barak Bess were both impressed by his resurgent performance and considered where he could go in his next fight.

“Two words, it would be punch placement, and that’s what Chocolatito wanted all night, it was perfection,” Ak said of the fight.

Barak was a touch surprised, explaining: “‘When your idol becomes your rival’ - usually when people say that, the younger guy wins, but not this time. This has proven the greatness of Roman Gonzalez. He bounced back, [after] getting stopped by a younger guy. Coming back, showing, ‘I am still that guy,’ can throw almost 1100 punches, stay in your face, still land shots that hurt my opponent and stay defensive.

“He proved a lot. It's incredible, his performance.”

Ak agreed, and suggested that Juan Francisco Estrada or Naoya Inoue could be lined up next.

“His defence was on point,” he stated.

“I remember people used to say Chocolatito gets hit too much, but we saw a set of skills we don’t see often in the ring.

“It just shows you're on a different level to everyone else. I think Chocolatito is not reinvented, but there’s a new energy about him. I want the trilogy against Estrada, maybe against Inoue.”
