A fight between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul has long been rumoured. Stephen Espinoza, the President of Sports at Showtime, believes the fight will happen.

Stephen Espinoza believes Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul is a real possibility. The YouTube star has taken to boxing in recent years by participating in a number of high-profile events but any fighting credibility Paul holds will surely be ripped apart by Mayweather.

The former five-weight world champion has not fought in a boxing ring since 2017 when he humiliated UFC star, Conor McGregor. Despite Paul possessing size advantages, boxing is the Mayweather family business and that should be made evident if the pair do clash, and the Showtime President of Sport is confident it will occur.

“In terms of the specifics, it is premature,” Espinoza told Boxing Scene. “You know, there are reports out, one of which has sort of pegged the date as June 5th. It’s definitely not June 5th. It never has been. There are a few dates that we’re sort of circling and a few venues.

“You know, Floyd put up a poll [on Instagram] earlier, a few days ago, about different cities. And that’s really where we are. I do expect some definitive resolution within, I don’t know, the next few days, the next week roughly. But there really isn’t – I’m not trying to be coy – it hasn’t been determined, date, venue, etc.”

With Mayweather’s time as a meaningful prize-fighter seemingly over as he pursues high-reward, low-risk opportunities, it appears that his once-fruitful relationship with Showtime could resume. The backend of the Michigan fighter’s illustrious career, fights that included Mayweather’s wins over Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao, was covered exclusively by Showtime and Espinoza thinks the partnership can once again be prosperous.

“I think the bigger question has been, you know, is it going to happen? Is the event going to happen? And in what state? There never really was a question, I think, from our perspective about being involved. You know, I think we’ve had a long and successful relationship with Floyd.

“This one is a little bit different from the other ones, but you know, we wanna remain in business with him and he’s comfortable with us. So, you know, we’re riding with Floyd. You know, if this is where he’s going, then we’re gonna be along with him, with good partners.”
