IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards is full of confidence ahead of his fight with Muhammad Waseem this Saturday.
Edwards and his challenger will face off in Dubai, with the Englishman making his second title defence after winning the strap back in April 2021.
A win for him - or indeed, for Waseem - could see them set up a fight with Julio Cesar Martinez, who is the WBC champion in the division. Martinez last fought at the beginning of March when he moved up to super-flyweight and lost a decision toRoman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez.
The title wasn't on the line, so a chance for a huge unification battle with Edwards remains in the cards. Speaking in front of a crowd to promote the fight, Edwards admitted: “I’m flashy, maybe a bit cocky, maybe a bit arrogant.
“I know their team are banking on trying to draw me out of how I normally box and play to my pride and my ego, but that is making it a whole heap worse because I can go the full 12 rounds and allow for zero shots to land if I want.”
Waseem was similarly ebullient, saying: “Watch the fight, and there will be a big upset on Saturday night. All the talk will be finished. Viva Pakistan!”
