Unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is ready to break George Kambosos Jr.’s eye socket and vertebrae should they ever manage to meet in the ring.
The pair had been slated to fight this summer in a mandatory defense for the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO titles, but Lopez tested positive for coronavirus, putting back the date to October 4.
Triller is attempting to delay the fight to October 16, having swapped the event from Madison Square Garden to the Barclays Center due to the promotional outfit not wishing to stage their fight in competition with Monday Night Football. However, Kambosos is reportedly negotiating hard to allow that change to go ahead with his blessing.
Speaking to IFL TV ahead of the expected fight, Lopez decided to hit out at Kambosos’ claim to Spartan heritage.
“I get it - he can use the Spartan s— all he wants,” Lopez said. “I’m not going to disrespect the Spartans, but my guy ain’t a Spartan. I’ve got a video of him getting knocked out in the amateurs that I can post right now. He got knocked out with a mean-ass uppercut, with 10-ounce gloves. Amateur 10-ounce gloves and headgear and never got back up. You’re not a Spartan. You’re just a fraud. A Spartan don’t stay down. A Spartan gets back up. You wanna say, ‘300,’ and all that. Don’t disrespect the gods, bro.”
Lopez predicted that he would pull off a first-round victory.
“I call it in the first round, man,” Lopez claimed. “Call it the first round. That guy is there for me. If he tries to box, he can’t box me. [Vasyl] Loma[chenko] tried it. Can’t box me. You try to come at me. [Richard] Commey tried it. You're gonna get dropped. You know what I mean? What way you want to get out? How you want this? The whole thing is, like, there’s no way out, my guy. There’s no way out.
“You're going to collect what you’re going to collect, but I’m going to make sure you get a beating out of this, for sure, because you took it to a whole different personal level. Like, [Diego] Magdaleno learned this lesson. Just a little bit.”
The 24-year-old American then suggested he would feel no remorse if he broke his rival’s eye socket or even his vertebrae.
“But this guy, it’s going to be twice as bad. I feel like if I break his f—ing eye socket, I’m sorry, but I'm not sorry. I feel like if I snap his vertebrae, I'm not sorry,” Lopez said.
“I really want to show everybody what my power is capable of and what my mind is capable of. If I really want to hurt someone to that extreme, I will. That’s really what it comes down to.”
