Teofimo Lopez Jr. is keen to move ahead with his fight with George Kambosos Jr., according to reports.
The 23-year-old American holds the IBF, WBA and WBO lightweight belts and also the ‘Franchise’ iteration of the WBC title after he defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko last year.
He was meant to have fought Kambosos already but his coronavirus infection has seen the fight pushed back until October 2021, in a bout promoters Triller reportedly now hope will take place in the challenger's native Australia.
Boxing Scene reports that Lopez and his team have begun legal actions to bring the clash forward.
The website reports that Lopez’s lawyer, Patrick English, wrote to the IBF on July 12, arguing that a postponement until October 14, “violates the IBF rules but which is impractical.”
The pair had been set to fight in Miami on June 5, and Lopez had previously spoken of wishing to move up perhaps to 140lbs in search of higher profile opponents.
With dates in August and September already put forward, it seems the unified champion hopes to fight at least one more time in 2021, something that an October defence against Kambosos may prevent.
