Teofimo Lopez scored a unanimous decision win over Steve Claggett on Saturday night, and the champion revealed his ambitions after the victory.
Claggett was not the high-profile opponent that Lopez might otherwise have chosen, but he was the clear winner on a wide set of scorecards at 120-108, 120-108 and 119-109.
While a knockout did not come, WBO champion Lopez could be paired with Devin Haney in a huge match-up, while Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has operated at 140lbs in the past when the right fight has been presented to him.
However, speaking in the ring after his win, Lopez suggested that he could instead move up to welterweight.
“To be real – I’m going to be frank with you guys – I feel like with this weight cut and everything, my body’s growing,” he said.
“And although it don’t look like I can handle myself at 147, I believe I can. I truly believe I can, and I want these great champions.”
