Teofimo Lopez reasserted himself as one of boxing’s best fighters in 2023 when he dominated Josh Taylor to win the WBO belt at 140lbs.
The outspoken New Yorker is correctly recognised as one of the sport’s leading talents and competition is not far away at super lightweight with the likes of Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis also operating in and around his weight class.
Last month, Haney collected the WBC belt with an impressive win over Regis Prograis but the routine win hasn't gone down well with everybody.
Teofimo Lopez father, Teofimo Sr, is no stranger to addressing his son’s rivals and Haney is the latest recipient of a harsh assessment from the trainer of Lopez.
“My son should be undisputed because Josh Taylor never lost the belts to nobody. Shut up that you’re the best in the division. My son is number one at 140,” said Lopez Sr when speaking to J Calderon Boxing Talk.
“That guy fought the easiest challenge in the 140lb weight division. I’m not sweating about that guy. He’s a fake. He lies about everything all the time, and I don’t like fake people.”
