Terence Crawford aiming for busy 2023 after failing to fight Errol Spence Jr

Terence Crawford aiming for busy 2023 after failing to fight Errol Spence JrDAZN

Terence Crawford is aiming to step up his activity for 2023 after a recent trend of fighting just once per year.

His bout for 2022 was a title defence against David Avanesyan, which he dominated without trouble.

Many had hoped for the unbeaten WBO welterweight champion to make an undisputed clash with the division’s other champion, Errol Spence Jr.

However, that fight could be made in 2023, especially with Crawford ready to fight three times next year.

“I am making it a goal to fight as many times as possible,” Crawford said to BoxingScene.com. “I would like to fight two or three times in 2023. I definitely want to be more active as long as I’m healthy.”

Crawford’s activity has been sparse recently. In November 2020 he knocked out his British opponent, Kell Brook, after almost a year’s absence from the ring due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Crawford then waited 53 weeks before another knockout, sending Shawn Porter into retirement in November 2020.

The 35-year-old then left Top Rank to become a free agent, arranging his clash against Avanesyan.

“I just have to stay healthy,” said Crawford, he added. “With what we have going on, I can stay in the ring and stay active as often as we want.”
