Terence Crawford has been installed the favorite across many Las Vegas’ oddsmakers ahead of his undisputed welterweight world championship fight against Errol Spence Jr. on July 29.
However, the WBO welterweight world titleholder does have a message for anyone insisting he’s the underdog against the unified champion, Spence.
“I think they’re just missing everything about Terence Crawford,” the undefeated fighter said to Shawn Porter on The PorterWay Podcast recently. “I’ve been the underdog my whole career. Coming into this fight, I feel like a lot of people are writing me off saying, ‘Oh, well, Errol is bigger, he’s stronger, he’s more technical, his jab is better, he’s better defensively, he can take a punch better.’ So I’m just sitting here and I’m licking my chops because I know who I am and I know what I’m capable of.”
Crawford added for good measure: “I been in this predicament before where a lot of people say ‘Oh, well, I don’t think Terence is going to be able to beat this guy, I don’t know how Terence is going to do with this guy — he’s bigger, he’s stronger’ and the outcome is the same.”
The outcome being Crawford’s hand raised in victory as evidenced by his pristine 39-0 record with 30 knockouts.
Despite the confidence, Crawford acknowledges that he expects nothing short of a stern test and absolute fireworks against Spence (28-0 with 22 KOs) later this month.
“We’re going to box, we’re going to bang, we’re going to brawl,” Crawford said, “we’re going to do it all.”
