Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte last shared a ring eight years ago, but it always felt like their paths would cross again.
A lot has happened in the careers of both men since their first fight and now they meet again on August 12, where a loss for either man will be disastrous.
Here, DAZN looks at the road to Joshua vs. Whyte 2 and the fights that helped us get here.
Joshua vs. Whyte – 2015
A thrilling heavyweight encounter saw Joshua emphatically stop Whyte as he captured the British title with a brutal seventh round stoppage.
Despite Joshua’s dominant win, Whyte refused to walk away from the rivalry and has been calling for a rematch ever since. He now has his wish, but he’s had to be patient to get to this point.
Whyte vs. Povetkin 2 – 2021
After a shocking loss to Alexander Povetkin in Eddie Hearn’s back garden during the COVID-19 summer of 2020, Dillian Whyte had to get it right the following year.
Whyte stopped Povetkin in four rounds to breathe life into his career as a second loss to the former world champion could've closed the door on Whyte’s future.
Fury vs. Whyte – 2022
After standing near the front of the WBC queue for a number of years, Dillian Whyte finally received his world title crack against Tyson Fury in 2022.
After a lengthy wait, Whyte was once again exposed at the highest level as Fury dominated the bout before stopping Whyte in the fight’s sixth round with a perfect uppercut.
Usyk vs. Joshua 2 – 2022
Oleksandr Usyk shocked the world in 2021 when he outpointed Anthony Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
By repeating the result the following year, it prompted Joshua to take a long look at himself and make big changes to his team. Joshua couldn’t deal with Usyk’s movement and now he heads into a Whyte rematch knowing that so much is on the line for both men.
