Tommy Fury vs. Jake Paul: Will there be a rematch?

Tommy Fury vs. Jake Paul: Will there be a rematch?DAZN

On Sunday night Jake Paul and Tommy Fury finally went head-to-head inside the ring after years of cancellations and postponements.

With two fighters who are relative novices in the professional ranks, it was no surprise that the fight was not of the highest quality, but that did not stop it from captivating a worldwide audience.

The contest went the full eight round distance and saw Fury declared the winner on two of the three judges' scorecards.

But the burning question on everyone's mind now is whether Paul will activate his rematch clause?

Who won the first Paul vs. Fury fight?

The time for talking had stopped when Jake Paul and Tommy Fury settled their differences in Saudi Arabia and from the opening bell, it was clear that Fury was the more experienced professional boxer.

He was landing the more accurate punches while Paul was waiting for an opportunity to land his favoured right hand which has proved the difference in previous fights.

While the fight failed to catch fire, there was a moment of jeopardy in the final round when Paul knocked Fury down with a left jab.

Fury managed to survive the assault that followed to see out the contest and was declared the winner via split decision with two judges scoring the fight 76-73 to Fury, while the other scored the contest 75-74 to Paul.

Paul vs. Fury: will there be a rematch?

Before the fight took place, it was revealed that Jake Paul had a rematch clause written into his contract if he failed to beat Tommy Fury on Sunday night.

It was no surprise that following the announcement of the judges' cards, Paul was immediately asked whether he would take the rematch.

"We can run it back," Paul said.

"I think we deserve that rematch."

"All respect to Tommy, he won. Don't judge me by my wins, judge me by my losses."

Paul then went onto reveal some issues during his training camp may have been the cause of what he labelled a 'flat' performance.

"I felt flat - I got sick really bad twice in this camp, injured my arm. This wasn't my best performance, but that's no excuse."

Paul vs. Fury: when will the rematch take place?

A date and location is yet to be announced for the rematch.
