Tony Bellew is backing Jermell Charlo to cause a huge upset when he challenges Canelo Alvarez for super-middleweight glory this weekend.
Charlo is jumping up two weight divisions as he looks to become only the third man to defeat the Mexican great after Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.
In recent years, Canelo has showed signs of slowing down especially in his fight with Bivol which occurred in May 2022.
Rebound wins over Gennadiy Golovkin and John Ryder both went the distance and there’s a belief within the boxing community that Canelo could be on the final stretch.
Bellew, a big admirer of Canelo, thinks this weekend could be a step too far.
“Canelo vs. Charlo really is an amazing fight,” said Bellew during an exclusive chat with DAZN ahead of the 168lbs battle.
“I've got this feeling that the youth on Charlo’s side is going to be a factor in this one and that Canelo might not be able to keep up. This one can go either way, but I just think Canelo might lose. Charlo is hungry and I feel he has the bigger point to prove.”
