Tony Bellew surprisingly names 1990s controversial heavyweight as his favourite ever fighterDAZN

Tony Bellew caused something of a surprise when he was asked who his favourite fighter was recently.

Appearing on Carl Froch’s YouTube channel, Bellew was asked a series of questions by ‘The Cobra’ and on the subject of his most favourite fighter, the Liverpool fighter didn’t hesitate when naming Riddick Bowe as his answer.

The New York heavyweight joined the professional ranks in the late 1980s following a stellar amateur career that culminated in a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics.

As a professional, Bowe participated in legendary battles against Evander Holyfield and Andrew Golota with his last fight coming in 2008 when he was way past his best.

“Riddick Bowe, because I can relate to him the most,” said Bellew when speaking on Froch on Fighting

"I loved him, absolutely adored him. It’s not one that everybody expects, but I loved Riddick Bowe. Absolutely exceptional.”
