Trevor Bryan, Joe Joyce and Anthony Joshua: Mapping out Daniel Dubois' path to a world title

Trevor Bryan, Joe Joyce and Anthony Joshua: Mapping out Daniel Dubois' path to a world titleDAZN
Daniel Dubois returned in style on Saturday night. How could his future look?

Trevor Bryan

If Daniel Dubois wants to make good on his lofty status as WBA interim champion, then why not go after the regular belt within that organisation. The New Yorker won that title back in January with a late stoppage over Bermane Stiverne and it’s a fight that could see Frank Warren and Don King resuming their rivalry following a number of high-profile fights in the 1990s.

Despite Bryan’s standing as a world champion, Dubois would start the contest a decent favourite. Bryan has built his record carefully in America and has had things much his own way. That would change if he faced Dubois, and the British youngster would certainly raise his profile by getting his hands on a minor world title.

Charles Martin

After defeating Bryan, Dubois could make a first defence against Charles Martin for his American debut. Like many Brits before him, Dubois could feature on a New York or Las Vegas undercard in an attempt to resonate with the lucrative stateside market.

In Martin, Dubois gets an opponent who is well known to fight fans due to his woeful showing against Anthony Joshua. As well as being a former world champion, Martin would also provide Dubois with a decent measuring stick setting a gauntlet for Dubois to get the job done quicker than fellow countryman.

Michael Hunter

Another fighter known to U.K. fight fans is Michael Hunter. Appearing on several Matchroom shows, Hunter has shared the ring with a number of quality operators. Vastly underrated, the talented American is a tidy boxer and he could give Dubois plenty of problems.

If Dubois is to reach the top, then getting past Hunter will be a priority. A dominant showing here will make people sit up and take further notice, and it would serve as ideal preparation for dealing with slick fighters at the business end of the division.

Joe Joyce 2

No matter what Daniel Dubois goes on to achieve in his career, settling the score with Joe Joyce will always be on his wish list. After moving himself into a decent position with the WBA on Saturday night against Bogdan Dinu, Dubois was still quick to call out the man who defeated him in November 2020.

Joyce is currently in the mix for a world title shot so it doesn’t appear that Dubois will be a priority of his in the near future. If Dubois can pick up a number of wins and even bring a title to the table, it could be a fight well worth waiting for two years down the line.

Anthony Joshua/Tyson Fury

Will Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury still be on top in 2023? If so, and if Dubois has restored his reputation, then what better way to reach the top then an all-British heavyweight clash? Dubois will have done well to have made it to this point but there’d still be one almighty hurdle to clear.

Fury and Joshua may well have shared a ring by the time Dubois could be ready for either man but with both current champions relatively young for heavyweights, it’s likely they’ll still be near the summit in two years. Will Dubois, and all his new experience, be able to topple either?
