His Excellency Turki Alalshikh turning the page on a possible Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford super fight paved the way for someone to take Alvarez's place against the consensus pound-for-pound best.
Before Vergil Ortiz Jr. could even deliver his majority decision over Serhii Bohachuk in Las Vegas on Saturday night, Alalshikh appeared live on DAZN and stated he believes Ortiz should face Crawford next.
"Tomorrow or after the fight, we have big meeting to support and see the next step with the Golden Boy," Alalshikh told DAZN with Oscar De La Hoya by his side. "Ortiz, if he does the job today, we want to see him against Crawford."
He added: "I will give Crawford big offer to do this."
Fresh off his win to become the new WBC interim super welterweight world champion, Ortiz (22-0, 21 KOs) said he's with that idea.
"Let's do it, man. I'm ready for a challenge," said Ortiz about facing the new WBA super welterweight world champion Crawford. "I think 'Bud' is probably pound-for-pound No. 1 in the world and I want to show that I got what it takes to beat him."
In addition to Alalshikh targeting Crawford vs. Ortiz, he and De La Hoya agreed that William Zepeda challenging WBC lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson should be on the same card as well.
