Frank Warren celebrated Tyson Fury’s victory over Dillian Whyte and said that the WBC mandatory challenger was left ‘brutally exposed.’
Whyte was knocked out by an uppercut and a prod in the sixth-round after he appeared to be on the back foot from the opening bell, with his promoter Eddie Hearn thinking he had not won any of the first five rounds.
The defeat came after Whyte had waited three years for a shot at the title and after the fight, Fury suggested that he would one day become a world champion himself, but thought he was simply too good.
His co-promoter Warren agreed Fury had dominated.
Warren wrote on BoxingScene.com: “The night was really all about one man doing his thing on his home stage after conquering America over the last few years. He truly is a global superstar and the way the British public has embraced him, I know he truly appreciates.
“I believe Tyson is now the most popular and recognizable individual sportsman in the country.”
The Queensberry Promotions head turned to Whyte, and described how he saw the fight.
“He was far too sharp for Dillian Whyte,” he explained. “Whose limitations were brutally exposed by his speed and movement. I always felt there would be shades of the Dereck Chisora fights in this one and so it proved.
“A big punch and bravery is never going to be enough to topple Tyson, who is now making a mockery of the theory that he doesn’t carry knockout power.”
Fury suggested that he may now step away from the ring, though a fight of some description against UFC champion Francis Ngannou looks possible. Warren is not counting on any decision being made yet.
“What comes next for Tyson we will all have to wait and see,” he stated. “Questions on the subject are inevitable, but often futile, straight after a huge fight. Let him enjoy his home comforts for a few months and then he will be better placed to fully determine his fighting future.”
