The former world champion gave his opinion.

Former world champion Ricky Hatton thinks that time is running out for Tyson Fury to fight Anthony Joshua.

Joshua defeated Francis Ngannou with a brutal two-round display in Saudi Arabia last night, while on May 18, Tyson Fury meets Oleksandr Usyk to contest the heavyweight undisputed title, live on DAZN PPV.

The winner is in line to take on Joshua after his win last night, but should either step away, then a title fight against IBF mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic could be next, offering Joshua the chance to become a three-time world champion.

Speaking to Spin Bet, Hatton said that given the pair are now in their mid-thirties, there is a short window to make any all-British match-up.

He commented: “AJ’s legacy is an Olympic gold medallist, a two-time heavyweight champion, surely he will only want the defining fights and get out the game and put his a*** on the sofa. I couldn’t see him having another warm-up fight or facing Filip Hrgovic and I don’t think Tyson wants to hang around for fight after fight.

“Tyson Fury has the Oleksandr Usyk fight. Let’s see who the best in the world is and I don’t think either AJ or Tyson will want to retire without fighting each other to find out who the best in Britain is.

“They’re both British heavyweight champions and will want to get in the ring with each other but they won’t hang around forever. They’re at the stage now where they get the fights they want now and get out the game and enjoy what you’ve worked so hard for all of those years.”
