WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman is content that Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou will not have the champion’s belt on the line.
Fury is currently waiting to be given his next mandatory by the governing body, and has seen an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk fall through.
There is some controversy that Fury vs. Ngannou on October 28 is a professional contest, but the WBC has not enforced a defence of the belt.
Sulaiman told Sky Sports: "The WBC is absolutely supportive of Tyson Fury and his decision to engage in a non-title bout and a WBC special event contest."
He added: "He has tried to land a fight with the unified champion several times, with [Anthony] Joshua and [Andy] Ruiz and all credible opponents, and not having a mandatory contender he may engage in this type of event under the WBC rules."
With the proposed Deontay Wilder vs. Andy Ruiz eliminator yet to be confirmed, the president is relaxed about letting Fury fight as he wishes.
"The WBC has been flexible and supporting to try to find the best mandatory contender of the WBC in the division," Sulaiman said.
"Wilder vs Ruiz without a doubt would have the best mandatory contender. We are waiting for a final decision [from] both camps. If such is not materialized, then we will have to cancel such an order and create a new ruling."
