Tony Bellew is fully aware of what it takes to step into the ring with Oleksandr Usyk, and he’s backing his former opponent to get the job done against Tyson Fury.
The pair will finally collide on May 18 after their first meeting set for earlier this month was postponed after Fury suffered a cut in sparring.
Bellew faced Usyk in 2018 with every cruiserweight belt up for grabs, but he was unable to beat the masterful Ukrainian as he was stopped in the eighth session.
Now impressed with what Usyk has gone to accomplish at heavyweight, Bellew believes Usyk will once again be victorious when he tackles Fury this spring.
“I don’t think anybody beats Oleksandr Usyk. I don’t think anybody beats him. I said it many, many moons ago,” said Bellew when speaking to Matchroom at the Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall press conference.
“The craziest part about it is I think when Fury was with his uncle, I do think he beat him, but his style changed and now he’s an aggressive counter puncher and that isn’t going to work against Usyk.”
