Vasiliy Lomachenko is close with one of the fighters.

Vasiliy Lomachenko is hoping his win over George Kambosos Jr. on Saturday night to become the new IBF lightweight champion will be the start of what could be a successful two weeks for Ukrainian boxing.

Lomachenko was in action in Perth against the former undisputed lightweight champion, and his skillset proved too much for Kambosos who was knocked down twice in the eleventh round before the fight was stopped.

This world title success adds to what is already a legendary career for Lomachenko and speaking after his win over Kambosos, he is backing his fellow countryman Oleksandr Usyk to overcome Tyson Fury when the pair meet for the undisputed heavyweight title.

"My opinion is I am with my friend and with my brother Oleksandr Usyk, and of course I wish him to win this fight," Lomachenko said.

"The best man will win this fight. This is a very, very historic moment for boxing, for people around boxing and, of course, for our Ukraine it's a very important fight.

"I will be praying for Oleksandr and I hope the best man wins."

Fury and Usyk will clash for all four world heavyweight titles in Riyadh in what is one of the biggest fights in recent memory on May 18, and it will be broadcast live on DAZN PPV
