Vasiliy Lomachenko: I have to fight to earn titles backDAZN
The lightweight veteran is back in the ring this weekend.

Vasiliy Lomachenko has not given up hope of winning back Teofimo Lopez’s lightweight championship belts.

Last October, Lopez caused a huge upset to take the IBF, WBA and WBO regular belts from Lomachenko as well as his WBC Franchise belt. Lopez was expected to be back in action against his IBF mandatory George Kambosos but a Covid-19 infection has postponed any ring return indefinitely.

Speaking to BoxingScene.com, the Ukranian explained what he’d learned from the setback.

“What I learned the most from that fight is that I can’t get that time back,” he said.

“I have watched the fight. I’ve reviewed what I could have done to win the fight. It happened. All I can do is move forward and position myself to regain my titles.”

As he looks to move back into a position to challenge for titles again, he will face Japanese fighter Masayoshi Nakatani this Saturday.

“My goal is to be as active as possible but more importantly against the highest level of competition,” observed Lomachenko.

“It doesn’t matter where the fight takes place. What matters is that I’m fighting, the fans are back and I plan to win back my titles.”
