Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. George Kambosos is a bigger fight than Devin Haney in Australia, claims Bob ArumDAZN
The American promoter believes his own fighter is a better challenger for the champion.

Bob Arum hopes to set up a fight with former unified champion Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos, who now holds a belt from each governing body.

Lomachenko had the IBF, WBA and WBO belts as well as the WBC Franchise strap, but those passed to Teofimo Lopez back in 2020.

Lopez then lost the titles to Kambosos late last year after their fight had been repeatedly delayed, and that led to the 28-year-old Australian in charge of what happens next.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn is keen for Kambosos to face off against WBC champion Devin Haney to settle the dispute over whether there really is an undisputed lightweight champion yet.

Speaking to FightHype, Top Rank CEO believes that Lomachenko is a more compelling opponent.

“We’re talking to Lou [DiBella] and Peter [Kahn] and we’re optimistic because we have really good contacts inside Australia,” he said.

“COVID is in the way, but I think it’ll be okay and ESPN is ready to step up to the plate to get that fight done.

“Truth be told, nobody knows who Devin Haney is in Australia.

“Really, he hasn’t had any exposure. Everybody that follows boxing around the world, including Australia, knows Lomachenko.

“So, Lomachenko would be a much bigger match in Australia than Devin Haney would be.”
