Vergil Ortiz is ready for Terence Crawford, claims Sergio MoraGolden Boy Promotions
The young contender is making his claim for a shot, Sergio Mora said on the DAZN Boxing Show.

Sergio Mora believes that Vergil Ortiz could be ready to take on Terence Crawford.

The former world champion was speaking on JABS as part of the DAZN Boxing Show.

Having seen Ortiz stop Egidijus Kavaliauskas at the weekend, Mora thinks that the display was so impressive that a title shot is a reasonable expectation.

“This young star who's knocking out everyone believes he can be one of the best pound for pound boxes on the planet,” he said.

“Hey, that's all that we need to know. So yes, I think he's ready for him because he passed getting hurt with flying colours. He came back, was disciplined fighting behind the jab, not going out there with the barrage of punishment that he normally goes looking for.

“So that showed maturity that showed that he evolved, and we know how he's going to react now because we know Bud is going to land his shots. We know Crawford is going to hurt our teams, but now he knows what to expect. So yes, I think that Virgil Ortiz is ready for Crawford.”

Mora pointed to Teofimo Lopez Jr as an example of what a youngster can achieve against a more experienced belt holder.

“We felt that Teofimo Lopez wasn't ready for[Vasily] Lomachenko and now we see who's reaping the rewards of that. A 23 year old, undisputed champion who's on top of the world right now,” he said.

“That's exactly the type of thing that you need to do to become, and crossover as, a star and let this kid do it. Vergil thinks he's ready. Go on. That's what I say.”
