What changes does Ryan Garcia need to make after Gervonta Davis loss?DAZN

DAZN Boxing analyst Sergio Mora has revealed what Ryan Garcia needs to change after his loss to Gervonta Davis and if he is to enjoy success at 140lbs.

Garcia was stopped by Gervonta Davis in the seventh round after being knocked down during the earlier stages of the contest, but at the age of 24, there is plenty of time for Garcia to put this loss behind him and achieve great things in boxing.

Following his loss to Davis, Garcia stated that he will now fight at 140lbs for the forseeable future and Mora explained what changes 'King Ry' needs to make ahead of this return to the ring.

"Garcia needs to make the exact same changes he needed before this knockout loss. He fights too upright, he needs more head movement, he needs more footwork," Mora stated on the latest instalment of JABS

"He fights flat footed using lateral movement, he needs more different varieties of jabs, it can’t be that simple jab to snap off that left hook. These are all things he avoided learning because he never had to. His speed and his power carried him to this part of his career, but now that he’s in with the elite, he’s in there with a beast like ‘Tank’."

Suffering a loss like Garcia's this past weekend would often result in bitter reactions from fighters in the aftermath, Mora gave Garcia plenty of praise when it came to how dealt with the defeat.

"All in all, he took the loss well, I liked the way he was reacting so I think he’s going to learn from this," Mora said.

"Humility is a great teacher in life and knowing that power is not going to be enough, speed is not going to be enough, now he needs the technique that’s another thing he needs to work on."
