Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez: Background, record, championships, biggest wins of Sor Rungvisai’s next opponentDAZN

If there is one boxer who has burst onto the scene in recent months, it’s Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez.

At the tender age of 22, Rodriguez boasts a 15-0 record and won a world title in his previous fight after stepping in at a moment’s notice to face Carlos Cuadras.

Rodriguez is currently boxing’s youngest world champion as a result of his success against Cuadras and now he is looking to overcome one of the legends of the sport in Sor Rungvisai in the main event of what is a stacked card in Texas, which can be seen live on DAZN come Saturday night (except Uzbekistan and Thailand).

Carlos Cuadras was originally set to defend his WBC super flyweight title against Sor Rungvisai last February, but a non-COVID illness forced the former world champion to pull out giving flyweight contender Jesse Rodriguez the opportunity to step in at a week’s notice.

The move up in weight didn’t seem to affect Rodriguez who knocked down Cuadras with a perfect right uppercut in the third round before using his speed and footwork to attack Cuadras from all angles.

This strategy kept Rodriguez in control throughout the 12 rounds and resulted in the American winning via a unanimous decision with the three ringside judges scoring the fight 117-110, 117-110 and 115-112.

Rodriguez instantly became one of boxing’s brightest young stars following the win over Cuardras and the possibilities are endless for the WBC champion who at 22-years-old has a myriad of options when it comes to where he could go next.
