Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis compared himself to Rihanna after his victory over Ryan Garcia on Saturday night.
Rihanna has no professional boxing championships to her name so far in her career, and ‘Tank’ is not yet known for his musical output, but the 28-year-old American believes that the fight in Las Vegas was comparable to the Barbadian songstress’ efforts at this year’s Super Bowl.
Davis vs. Garcia was seen as the boxing event of the year so far and did not disappoint as ‘Tank’ delivered a brutal body shot in the seventh round to secure victory.
That means he retains his unbeaten record and will hope - perhaps after a rematch - to add to his resume if he can find a high-profile belt to chase down.
Speaking after his win over 24-year-old Garcia, Davis claimed he was now, “the face of boxing.”
He continued: "I just saw Rihanna perform at the Super Bowl and I was like that was going to be me one day, and here we are."
