George Groves believes that boxing fans may have seen Tyson Fury for the last time following his lacklustre win over Francis Ngannou this past weekend.
Fury climbed off the canvas in round three, and he was pushed hard until the final bell before being handed the verdict via an unpopular spit decision that has upset plenty of people in the boxing world.
The result means Fury’s proposed bout with Oleksandr Usyk, originally lined up for December 23, has been pushed back until next year.
The heavyweight pair, both world champions, have been on a collision course for a long time but Groves, a former world ruler himself, is unsure whether Fury ever fights again.
“I don’t think it’s happening, and I’m not sure, I think that might just be the last time we see Tyson Fury,” said Groves when speaking on The Verdict.
Thats not a dig at him. He’s had a fantastic magical career, and maybe he’s just earned enough, achieved enough so the desire’s not there anymore and he thinks ‘I don’t need to roll the dice against Usyk.’
“I think it’ll hurt him much more getting beat by Usyk than being tarnished for not fighting him.”
