Zhilei Zhang is the latest figure from the boxing world to have his say on Tyson Fury’s fight against Francis Ngannou and he’s labelled the contest a ‘freak show.’
The Chinese heavyweight, one of the division's leading contenders, had been linked to a fight with Fury earlier this year but those plans are now on hold with both men heading in directions.
Fury faces Ngannou in October and one month earlier, Zhang will step into the ring with Joe Joyce, a fighter he knows very well.
Earlier this year, Zhang caused a huge upset when he dominated Joyce to inflict the first professional defeat on the 2016 Olympic silver medallist.
The pair meet again next month and if successful, it’s likely Zhang will immediately target Fury, and he hasn’t held back when addressing Fury’s next move.
“I think it’s a freak show,” said Zhang, the WBO interim champion, during an exclusive chat with DAZN via Free Bets.
“It’s an exhibition. No matter what the rules look like, it’s an exhibition. Of course, it makes a lot of money, but I have to say he’s wasting everybody’s love for boxing.
“I really don’t see the point of this.”
