Friday, June 16 marks the start of what is arguably the biggest series in test cricket, The Ashes. 

Every two years, England and Australia meet in what is gruelling series of matches which has produced some of the sport's most iconic moments.

The Ashes starts on Friday, June 16 with the first test taking place at Edgbaston. 

Four more test matches will follow with the fifth and final game being staged at the Oval on Thursday, July 27.

What are the rules for an Ashes series? 

The winner of an Ashes series is determined by which team wins the most matches. 

However, with cricket being a sport which is at the mercy of mother nature, a match can be drawn and neither team is awarded a point. 

The series can also be drawn which means whichever team won the urn in the previous series, retains it.
