The New York Jets quarterback had a successful operation on his torn Achilles on Wednesday.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is hoping his is able to return for the New York Jets if they reach this season's playoffs.

Rodgers' regular season was cut short in his team's opener on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills where after just four snaps, Rodgers tore his left Achilles.

Usually this is a season ending injury which at times can take 12 months to heal, but Rodgers revealed on Friday that following a new innovative procedure used by renowned orthapedic surgeon Dr. Neal AlAttrache, he could be ready to play come January if the Jets reach the playoffs.

"There's a lot of different ideas about the overall length of the rehab. I think what I'd like to say is, just because nobody's ever done it in a certain way doesn't mean it's not possible," Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show

"I definitely have some odds stacked against me based on age, but I like it. Stack all the odds up against me and see what happens.

"My entire focus and dedication is about acquiring the most information and adding to what I've already put together as a pretty damn good rehab plan that's going to, I think, shock some people."

According to sources, AlAttrache placed an internal brace, an achilles "speed bridge", on Rodgers' injury with the aim of protecting the repair and possibly an earlier return to full fitness, but this is not guaranteed.

For now the Jets will have the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Zach Wilson, under centre and his first task will be to help the team go 2-0 with a win over the Dallas Cowboys.
