The Arizona Cardinals have signalled their early NFL Draft intent following a recent social media post.
The Cardinals hold the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. But a post on social media confirms they will not draft a rookie quarterback.
Arizona posted, "Our franchise quarterback," with an image of Kyler Murray.
After sustaining a season-ending injury in 2022, Murray returned for eight games in the 2023-24 season.
The Cardinals went 3-5 under Murray's leadership.
Some within the NFL wondered if the Cardinals could trade Murray and restart the rebuild with a rookie quarterback.
The upcoming 2024 season is year one of Murray's five-year $250 million contract. It is an expensive deal and could hinder Arizona in the future.
However, the Cardinals will stick with Murray and ignore the quarterbacks available in the 2024 NFL Draft.
GM Monti Ossenfort did not draft Murray, but the 46-year-old spoke positively about Murray over the weekend. Ossenfort told Arizona Sports radio, "I've been nothing but impressed with what he's (Kyler) done in our building, and it continues right now. Kyler's in the building every day, working and continuing to rehab. That was a tough injury that he came back from. That's hard, especially with someone like Kyler, who relies on his legs, that takes a while to get there mentally."
Ossenfort also confirmed his happiness with having Murray on the roster, saying, "We're looking forward to what Kyler can even grow upon what he did last year but extremely happy we have Kyler now and moving forward."
