The Buffalo Bills are making moves to fix their league-worst salary cap position.
As per Spotrac, the Bills are currently $19.7million over the cap and need to trim their payroll significantly before next Wednesday, when the new league year begins and teams are required to come in below the new $255million limit.
Sean McDermott’s team are reportedly making moves to clear up space, starting with the release of veteran safety Jordan Poyer, as per the NFL Network. The move should save the Bills $5.72million on the cap, with a $2million dead money hit.
Poyer was a defensive leader for the Bills and has spent seven years in Buffalo, being named an All-Pro in 2021 and earning a Pro Bowl berth a year later.
Also departing is defensive back Siran Neal, which will save the Bills $2.88million on the cap, while on the other side of the ball, center Mitch Morse and wide receiver/kick returner Deonte Harty have also been released.
Morse’s release sees the Bills free up $8.5million, with Harty clearing $4.315million, as AFC East champions get closer to the all-important break-even point before next Wednesday’s deadline.
