Being the number one overall pick in NFL drafts draws a lot of attention and expectation, and in 2023 that falls to Bryce Young.

The Carolina Panthers made a huge trade to secure the first pick in 2023, and used it to select Alabama product Young as their new franchise quarterback.

Young is expected to be the starter come week one of the season, with Andy Dalton on hand as the back-up.

The Panthers roster have recently reported to training camp as they prepare to challenge for the NFC South title in a division which is lacking a clear-cut favourite.

Tight end Hayden Hurst, who joined the Panthers this offseason, has been singing the praises of Young, who he expects to excel in the NFL.

"He is very intelligent and very composed for a 21-year-old kid," Hurst said at the Panthers' training camp press conference.

"He commands the huddle and when you have the confidence and intelligence at the quarterback position it is kinda infectious.

"He is going to be on top of his stuff, so he will expect us to be on top of our stuff as well."

Hurst, who spent last season with the Cincinnati Bengals, added: "He leads by example, he won't be the screaming type.

"He will go about his business a certain way, kinda like last year when I was with Joe [Burrow].

"He's not in your face, he's just in there watching film every day and it makes you want to be on the top of your game because you do not want to let guys like that down."
