Things keep going from bad to worse for the Bolts.

The injury list keeps growing for the Los Angeles Chargers, and now star wide receiver Keenan Allen has been ruled out of Thursday Night Football against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Bolts are already without starting quarterback Justin Herbert, after he had surgery on Tuesday to help repair a fracture in his right index finger.

Allen's injury weakens what was an already depleted wide receiver room, with second choice receiver Mike Williams ruled out for the season.

Thankfully for the Chargers - who will have Easton Stick starting at quarterback on Thursday - there is some good news ahead of their divisional match against the Raiders.

Wide receiver Joshua Palmer, who was on injured reserve and has missed the last six weeks, has logged three straight practices and is expected to suit up.

If Palmer is fully healthy, he should return to the role he played for much of the 2022 season when Allen and Williams were both once again sidelined through injury.

Allen's absense will give rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston yet another opportunity to prove why the Bolts used a first round pick to acquire him.

It has been a rookie season to forget for Johnston, with a number of high profile drops, however there have been a few glimmers of hope.

Week 13 was Johnston's best game for the Chargers - ironically without Herbert. The rookie made three catches for 91 yards to back up a Week 12 performance which saw him make five grabs for 52 yards.

But even with Palmer's return and Johnston's improvement, they will struggle to fill the massive void left by Allen.

Allen has over 10 more catches than any player in the NFL this season, and his 1,243 receiving yards is good for fourth best.
