The Chicago Bears are in 'no rush' to decide on Justin Fields' future.
Fields' future is one of the hottest topics of the NFL offseason. With the Bears owning the first-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, many pundits expect Chicago to trade Fields to another team.
However, Fields is still an active member of the Bears' roster. Some analysts felt the Bears would decide at the NFL Scouting Combine. They didn't. Others felt the opening week of free agency would see movement from Chicago's side. It hasn't.
With the draft getting closer, Chicago's decision becomes tougher. Should they keep Fields and trade the first overall pick? Will a quarterback-desperate team offer a healthy trade return for Fields? Or will Chicago keep Fields and draft a rookie quarterback?
On Friday morning's Get Up, Bears insider Courtney Cronin offered her analysis. "It doesn't feel like Chicago is in a rush to get Fields off the books," Cronin said.
"But as we get closer to the draft, deadlines could speed up the action. The Bears want to do right by Fields, but Fields' trade market is dry. That is something that the Bears maybe didn't foresee."
However, Cronin did hint that something could happen on draft night, saying, "Most sources I have spoken to indicated that a team in the draft won't get their desired quarterback, and that could force a Fields trade."
Draft night trades are not uncommon. The Tennessee Titans traded A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles on draft night. Could Fields find a new team that night?
