Philadephia Eagles fans can rejoice, as their infamous ‘tush push’ play looks set to avoid an NFL rule change.
According to NFL Executive VP of Football Operations Troy Vincent, there are no proposals from any team or the Competition Committee to ban or re-legislate the play that the Eagles have made famous in recent seasons.
The ‘tush push’ play has been used by the Eagles on goalline or short-yardage situations and sees quarterback Jalen Hurts dive up the middle while receiving a ‘brotherly shove’ from a teammate to pick up vital yardage.
It has been extremely effective for Philadelphia, but questions have been asked about the safety of the play, given the number of so many big bodies in a small space.
Vincent insists that there is no data to suggest that player safety is being compromised by the play after he previously said that he does not want to ‘punish a team that strategically does it well,’ last month.
One thing the Eagles will have to change this season is the player at the heart of the ’tush push’ after centre Jason Kelce retired earlier this month.
