DeAndre Hopkins' move to the New England Patriots looked set to be a done deal after the wide receiver's visit to Foxboro earlier in June.

The 31-year-old was released by the rebuilding Arizona Cardinals in May with the Patriots leading the charge for securing his services ever since.

Since Julian Edelman's final season with New England in 2019, head coach Bill Belichick has been on the hunt for a true first-choice wide receiver.

Take nothing away from Jakobi Meyers, now of the Las Vegas Raiders. He has led the Patriots in receiving yards for three straight seasons with a combination of Mac Jones and Cam Newton at quarterback.

However Meyers has never topped 1,000 yards in a single season, something Hopkins has achieved six times already in his career.

Is the move to the Patriots still on?

As things stand, New England still looks likely to be Hopkins' home for at least the 2023 season.

However the Foxboro fans are starting to get twitchy, as plenty of time has ticked by since Hopkins' reportedly successful visit to Boston.

The process has certainly slowed down, with many pointing towards the veteran not wanting to sign with a team until training camps begin in mid-to-late July.

If that is the case, Patriots fans have nothing to fear, however if Hopkins is glancing an eye elsewhere it could spell trouble.

Ultimately, this move on paper does not appear to make a ton of sense for the veteran wide receiver.

The three-time Pro Bowler is still missing a Super Bowl from his sparkling career, and the Patriots have a challenge on their hands just to reach the play-offs in one of the NFL's toughest divisions.

None of the true Super Bowl contenders have thrown their hat in the ring for Hopkins yet, but if they do it could spell trouble for New England.
